DRUGS DURING THE AUTARKIC PERIOD

This book analyses the strategy adopted for the production of drugs during the twenty-year Fascist period in Italy.
With the programme of self-sufficiency adopted by the Fascist government in 1936, the chemical and pharmaceutical industry in Italy underwent great development and began to produce all types of medicines, including those that till then had been imported. This growth continued until 1942. At the same time extra resources were dedicated to research and the cultivation of medicinal plants.
This interesting description is of a period that seems centuries distant but in fact is part of the recent past, a period in which the pharmaceutical industry entered the modern era and took its first steps in the advertising of drugs. The book offers an enjoyable description of the mentality and economy of the time.
