Hortus Eystettensis
COMMENTARIUM
Editors: K.W. Littger, G. Lorenz, A. Menghini
With the publication of this book, at which have worked Italian and German experts, Aboca Museum wants to give to the specialist and to the bibliophile an instrument to better understand one of the rarest and most interesting text of the history of botany: Basilius Besler
Hortus Eystettensis, printed in 1613, in three volumes, with 367 water-color calcography.
The work is thought to be one of the most important of the European botanic iconography, because of its exceptional richness in species
- mostly medicinal species- and because of the rankness in shapes and colors which embellish it. Even if it is part of the herbarium, the commentary is an important contribution to better understand the cultural context in which the herbarium was produced and to study in deep the contents either under historical or artistic or botanic point of view.
K. W. Littger, director of the Eychstatt Library.
Alessandro Menghini, he teaches Pharmaceutic Botany at the Universiry of Perugia.
Wolfang Muller Jancke, he teaches Pharmaceutics History at the University of Heidelberg.
Duilio Contin, bibliologist and director of the Aboca Museum Antique Library.
W. Dressendorfer, botanist and university professor.
