Hortus amoenissimus by Franciscus de Geest, edited by Aboca, is a collection of 201 original drawings, splendidly coloured with mixed techinque, a testimony to the variety of flowering plants cultivate in the botanical gardens of the time and of the rich collection of the much sought after Eastern Tulips.
The facsimile is accompanied by a 96- page Commentary.
The original, conserved at the National Central Library of Rome (manuscript Varia 291), is dated Leeuwarden 1668.
The reproduction of the book, faithful in the rendering of colours, will win over any lover of flowers for the freshness of the drawings and the brightness of the hues.
