The beauty of this work by the naturalist Franz Schultz lies in the particular delicacy with which the prints are colored. The images are of excellent quality and the watercolor tones are unequalled for the age. Only the flowers of Redoutè might compare. The description of the ornamental trees, of the fruit trees and of the shrubbery are presented first by means of an introduction with nomenclature in Latin, German and French, followed by information on the cultivation and blooming seasons. The images provide scientific information on flowers, leaves and seeds with a double definition in Latin and German. Some plates show, with originality, the various buds on branches or the grain of trunks cut in end grain or line grain. Other plates are dedicated to spines in order to point out their diversity in various shrubs, even those of the same species.
